With the second annual Service Gala taking place this Sunday, Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., I caught up with Andrews University Student Association (AUSA) Executive Vice President Jessica Yoong (who as of Feb. 21, is next year’s AUSA President), who conceptualized and planned the first Service Gala as part of an AUSA Initiative Project last year.
What should one expect when attending the gala?
Expect to see students presenting their various service experiences. Expect to learn about some exciting opportunities to get involved with. People will enjoy refreshments, mingle and take photos with friends, and possibly buy some items from the silent auction to donate to a good cause. Otherwise, it is totally free to attend this event!
What is the focus for the Service Gala this year?
The purpose of the Service Gala is to inspire and connect students with opportunities to serve. The proceeds from the silent auctions will be donated to the UNICEF Education Fund.
What other groups will AUSA be partnering with?
The AU UNICEF club will be facilitating a silent auction during the second part of the program.
What will be different about this year’s Service Gala?
A student-led organization from Kalamazoo, Refugee Outreach Kalamazoo, will be presenting and sharing about their non-governmental organization (NGO).
Are there any "cool" things planned for the gala?
The event will feature presentations by your fellow college students and the lobby will be transformed into an elegant cocktail party environment. It’s all about having fun and learning about opportunities to serve while supporting a good cause.
