Looking Forward to February

Looking Forward to February

Cold, windy February is the perfect month for curling up with some good entertainment to forget about the winter weather. Here are my most anticipated Arts & Entertainment releases for Feb. 2017:

1. The Space Between Us

Out in movie theaters on Feb. 2, this speculative science fiction film is about the first human born on Mars and his desire to experience normal human life on Earth. The movie promises a cheesy romantic plot with some space ships thrown in, which sounds right up my alley.

2. Norse Mythology

Acclaimed fantasy writer Neil Gaiman, one of my personal favorites, has refashioned Norse myths into a novelistic arc that weaves the well-known tales together, which will be available in bookstores on Feb. 7. Many fantasy authors have been inspired by the worlds, creatures and characters of the Norse mythological universe, making Gaiman’s take on things even more fascinating.

3. Super Bowl LI

While I’m a little excited for Lady Gaga at half-time, I’m all about the original Schuyler Sisters from the musical Hamilton performing “America the Beautiful” for the pregame show.

4. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

Though it aired in 2016, this hit show is coming to Netflix this month for a whole new audience. Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, has crafted a stirring retelling of the notorious case that has garnered two Golden Globes, nine Emmys, and a SAG Award. Sarah Paulson’s performance is certainly the highlight of the series.

5. Rereading 1984 with fresh eyes

George Orwell’s classic dystopian book has seen a recent resurgence in fame. Rereading it in the light of current events might give me an even better reason to hide underneath my covers. Stay cozy and out from under Big Brother’s watchful eye.
