Buy Groceries to Grow the Gospel

Buy Groceries to Grow the Gospel

This coming Friday, Campus Ministries at Andrews University will be teaming up with local health food grocery store Apple Valley to raise funds for their Student Missions program. The fundraiser is called Buy Groceries to Grow the Gospel, and is part of Student Missions week.
The Apple Valley fundraiser will be an all-day event, taking place from the moment doors open to the minute they close. The process is easy—simply flash your Andrews University ID card, and 5 percent of your total purchase will be donated to Campus Ministries, the Student Missions program in particular.
Student Missions allows students who want to take a year out of their academic experience to serve as student missionaries in the United States or abroad, to foster holistic personal development and to share the Gospel from the same time.
“Eighty percent of Student Missions’ existence is (funded) from money that was fundraised,” said Chaplain June Price, who is helping to spearhead the event. “First semester we did a concert to raise money, as well as a car wash, and every year we’re trying to add one new annual event. Last year we had the last first annual Apple Valley fundraiser, this year the first annual benefit concert. The year before that we did the first annual car wash. So now we have three steady ones, and we might even try to add a fourth one, so there’s two each semester.”
As far as participation eligibility goes, Apple Valley has been very generous in accepting non-Andrews University IDs. In addition to Andrews University students, faculty, and staff, those from Ruth Murdock Elementary School and Andrews Academy, as well as Andrews University alumni will all be eligible for the 5 percent donation—providing they have their IDs present and available for verification.
So whether it be to do some last-minute shopping to grab those final ingredients for that special dish you’re planning to make for Sabbath potluck, or simply to grab a cold, organic beverage to welcome in the weekend, consider stopping by Apple Valley this Friday to support Campus Ministries and their vision for Student Missions.
