The Benefits of Essential Oils
These days we’re always hearing about some new medical breakthrough: new techniques, new alternatives, or even new drugs. While I am thankful for these improvements in medicine, what amuses me is that we have forgotten the benefits of the plants given to us in Creation. Nowadays, most people are familiar with or have at least heard of about the benefits of essential oils, and everybody has an opinion about them. Essential oils, for those who may not know, are derived from plants through a process of steam distillation. This allows for the “life blood” of the plant to be extracted and used for medicinal and aromatherapy uses.
At this point you might be asking yourself, “Are essential oils worth the investment and commitment?” The answer is a certain yes. Natural medicine is widely used in many other parts of the world except for the United States. It’s a problem that we believe that it is better to take a handful of pills than to find a natural way to heal our bodies. You may have experienced a time when you were given a prescription drug and had some serious side effects, and the solution was to take another pill in order to treat those side effects. Would it not have been easier to deal with the symptoms as well as the root health problem with one solution? Essential oils offer that, and each oil is multifaceted, meaning that it will work on one’s overall health and not just target a specific health condition. Although a debate exists concerning the ability of essential oils to target and cure disease, essential oils have been proven to reduce stress, improve one’s immune system, and combat a plethora of common ailments.
Essential oils may be used three ways. First, you can inhale the oil aromatically, which involves just smelling them or using a diffuser to vaporize them with water, and this is the idea behind aromatherapy—using scents to stimulate positive reactions from the body. The second method is ingesting them orally, since there are certain oils that can be ingested for use as supplements. The third method is topical application, where you actually rub the oils into your skin; the most popular place to put them is on the bottom of the feet, since your feet have some of the largest pores on the body and are not overly sensitive.
After much research on the quality of various essential oils, I have chosen to purchase essential oils from Young Living, one of the world leaders in harvesting essential oils. Even though one can go to almost any store now and buy essential oils, I pride myself in knowing that I know exactly what is in the bottle of oil that I purchase, as well as the quality of the essential oils that I am using.
Opening your mind to the world of essential oils is a new and exciting experience, so I encourage you to give it a try. I believe strongly in the power of essential oils, not only to supplement a healthier lifestyle, but ultimately to enhance one’s life. I hope that after experiencing essential oils, you become a believer too.
